Purpose of the grant:
To help public libraries in Dollar General communities increase their literacy services to adult English language learners. Each funded library will receive a onetime grant of $5,000.00. Funds may be used to expand or add literacy services for adult English language learners.
Eligibility
• Must be a public library with a demonstrated need to provide literacy services to adult immigrants. • Must be located within 20 miles of a Dollar General Store, distribution center, or corporate office (please visit the Dollar General’s Store Locator online).
Guidelines
•Application must be submitted by 11:59 pm, February 22, 2008. • Cover sheet must be signed* by the library director and project coordinator.
Requirements
• Contribute print and online resources to the American Dream toolkit and website. • Participate in media training via conference call. • Promote the American Dream Starts @ your library using the @ your library trademark. • Provide brief, quarterly updates to ALA’s project manager. • Spend grant funds within 180 days of receipt. • Submit a final report to ALA documenting your library’s accomplishments, the impact of the project, and your use of funds.
